What is EmpowerMEN?

The term may seem like an oxymoron to some, but it is a misnomer to think men are not in need of mentorship, validation, and empowerment in the development of their social identity.

Men face many unspoken battles in a world that has stark social rules about masculinity. The traditional social norms that promote masculinity contains inherent conflict, which men must navigate in a paradigm shifting world.

Who defines the identity of a man?
What is the role of a man in the 21st century?
Who protects the man?
How do men create platforms more inclusive of female input?
To whom do men turn when in need of emotional support?
How does the change in economics impact men?
How do men from fatherless homes model fatherhood?

Men experience higher rates of homelessness.

Men live shorter lives and have lower life expectancy.

Men experience higher rates of violent victimization committed by a stranger.

Domestic violence against men go largely unreported.

Men are 77% of homicide victims.

Men have higher rates of suicide.

Men are 97% of combat casualties (dispensable).

Men are less likely to acknowledge the need for medical treatment.

Men are more likely to abuse alcohol.

Men only receive about 15% of custody in child custody cases.

Men experience paternity fraud.

Overall, men are trapped in a paradox as both perpetrators and victims of society, inextricably linked to cycles of patriarchal norms that mangles the proper display of caring, sharing, loving, trust, honor, and respect. Let's work together to help men immerse into the collective thought of moving from emasculation/domination to education to transformation.
